Back in 2017, I was watching a youtube video of Joey Kidney. I noticed that his background music sounds so relaxing yet sad and that intrigues me.

I searched the music behind his video which is Idk love by Jeremy Zucker- I check out his songs, which are a mix of sad and dynamic tunes and I think his listeners was around five thousand at that time. His music is different from the pop songs that we hear on the radio nowadays and because of that, I started listening to underrated artists. Why not? Why did I start listening to Underrated artists rather than the songs on the radio?

Pop music is evolving nowadays and listening to artists who write and produce their music made me believe more in what they do. Most artists started with their own materials without any record label. They create their own music from scratch and I admire them because of that. I’m obsessed with these artists and there are times that I feel that I can understand them because of their music.

Big thanks to different music platforms nowadays, we won't discover these talented musicians without it. Here are some underrated artists & band that you should listen to:

Jeremy Zucker

Jeremy Zucker started in 2015 where he released his first EP Beach Island. He continued writing and producing music through the years and his song "Bout It" streamed more than ten million across music platforms such as Soundcloud and Spotify. He collaborated with Blackbear for "talk is overrated" and Chelsea Cutler for their latest EP brent. His songs "comethru", "heavy" and "all the kids are depressed" are really catchy and it can either make you cry or dance with his music.

Sasha Sloan

Sasha Sloan is not just an amazing singer but she also wrote hit songs over the past few years; collaborated with musicians like Louis Tomlinson, Camila Cabello, LANY and more. According to her interview with Bustle, she explained: When I work with other artists, I’m just there to help them and help their vision. Sasha never failed to amaze me, her works are making me emotional but every lyric that she sang is very relatable. She released her EP Loser last year and made her US national TV debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Her latest release "Dancing with your ghost" will be featured on HBO's Euphoria.

EDEN

EDEN is an Irish singer and songwriter, he is formerly known as The Eden Project. Most of his music is written and recorded in his bedroom and send straight to iTunes. According to Billboard Get to Know video he plays instruments like guitar, piano, drums, violin and can make noises that are reasonable with a lot of things. EDEN is really talented and he tried to experiment with his music, making it more unique. Back in 2016, Lorde posted a message on EDEN's Facebook page to tell him how much she like his song "sex" which is part of his second EP 'i think you think too much of me'. His Debut Album Vertigo was released last year with his own label MCMXCV.

Chelsea Cutler

Chelsea Cutler started uploading covers back in 2014. Chelsea's hits include "Your Shirt" and "The Reason". Her latest release brent EP with Jeremy Zucker with their song "you were good to me" that has over fifteen million streams. She also released a new song with Kygo "Not Ok" that has been a hit recently. I became obsessed with her songs because the lyrics are very honest, people can relate through her sad lyrics and the beats are amazing.

Wet

I discovered Wet when I saw their music video on youtube "Don't Wanna Be Your Girl" from their debut album Don't You. It is such a perfect break up song and it is one of the best songs of 2014. Wet is an American indie pop band from Brooklyn, New York, with band members- Kelly Zutrau, Joe Valle, and Marty Sulkow. Their music is such a masterpiece and it is perfect when you play it in your car and drive around the city. They released their sophomore album Still Run last year, including my favorites "There's a Reason" and "You're not wrong".

Kayden

Kayden is just starting in the music industry and he is a genius. I discovered him through his song "Looking at you" and I got hooked! Kayden has an amazing voice but did you know that he also produces, writes and mix his songs? which is really impressive. According to his interview with musicandperspective: At 14 years old, he first started making/ producing music. He would work on his own and taught himself how to use DAWs. Even though he has been producing music since this young age, he wasn't confident to release anything until about a year ago. His latest release Beginnings was released last May, including his hits "One of the Good Ones" and "You Don't Care At All".

Nightly

Nightly (which means Night Love You, clever right?) is an alternative pop band from Nashville which consists of Jonathan Capeci and Joey Beretta. I'm so glad that I got to stumble upon their song XO on spotify which surpassed over nine million streams and because of that I got hooked with their music. They just released their latest EP Talk You Down and they are currently working on their debut album for Interscope Records.

Charlotte Lawrence

Charlotte Lawrence is an American singer-songwriter and model. Her songs consist of dark lyrics but with upbeat songs. She writes her experience through her songs and she tried her best to be honest. According to an interview, she said I'm not fake with it, citing Lorde, SZA, Patti Smith, and Bon Iver as inspirations. Her biggest hits include "Sleep Talking" and "Few Things" where she collaborated with JP Saxe- and it is incredible.

Kane Strang

Kane Strang is a singer and songwriter from New Zealand. He has a unique voice and, his lyrics will make us think about realizations in life. I listened to his song "My Smile Is Extinct" which has a great guitar intro and I got hooked with the song. I really like his vibe, but I wonder who hurt this boy? It becomes a hit that surpassed four million streams and most people can really relate to the lyrics which is about depression. His sophomore album Two Hearts and No Brain was released in 2017 that contains his hit songs "Not Quite" and "Oh So You're Off I See".

Gus Dapperton

Gus Dapperton is an Indie singer and songwriter which is known for his colorful music videos that's where he channeled his '90s influences. His song "I'm Just Snacking" became a hit for more than twenty-one million streams. If I can describe his music with one word it could be groovy, it amazes me that his music feels like he's taking me back to the '90s and I love it. He was asked to create a song for Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. According to his interview with New York Times “I wrote a demo in the car and just recorded it on my phone,” he said. “I had some downtime in a hotel room and I recorded it for real with my USB interface. I mixed and mastered it on my MacBook speakers, and they really liked it.” His latest single and music video "World Class Cinema" were released in 2018 which is included on his album Where Polly People Go to Read.

Gus Dapperton

Watching them develop their music throughout the years made me proud and I feel like (sometimes) they’re not our secret anymore. All of their hard work is definitely worth it.

My suggestion would be: look for any song on any music platforms that are underrated, do some digging! any genre will do. There are so many songs out there and no one is stopping you. Who knows? they could be the next big thing because of your support!

Here is the playlist of my favorite tunes from these amazing musicians:
